Before Martha

I started my career at Studio Books, Viking press as a paste-up artist and learned about photography. We published books for museum shows, photographers and artists. I worked with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis on her In the Russian Style book for Diana Vreeland’s show at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute. We worked with Irving Penn, and Georgia O’Keeffe, Alfred Eisenstaedt and Brassai. In the 80’s I was the first Art Director for Clarkson N. Potter, where we published about 50 books a year, most of them in the burgeoning lifestyle category. This is where I learned about food, decorating and fine-tuned my editing eye in the days of thirty-five-millimeter slides.
