Color
Photography is a team effort; the art directors, editors and stylists at Martha Stewart Living worked with photographers to conceive the story visually. Photography was used to transform a humble object into something memorable. Natural light photography gave food and flowers an emotional quality and beauty.
Color is powerful. Color is symbolic; it triggers moods and associations. It can be surprising and playful and it gave our stories personality. It was often used as a cinematic organizing principal to lead the reader through the narrative. Color created a sense of seasonality. Colors from nature inspired numerous paint color palettes from Kmart to Home Depot.
